Yanchun Zhang

Chief Statistician, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Ms. Yanchun Zhang is Chief Statistician at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where she leads the production of Human Development Index and other composite indices. She has 20+ years of quantitative research experience in economic and sustainable development. From 2014 to 2020, she headed Commodities work at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. Earlier, she served at UNDP in New York from 2007 to 2013 as a senior economist. She also worked at the World Bank's Development Research Group and in academia. She holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Economics, with highest honors, from Fudan University in China.
