50-in-5 is a country-led advocacy campaign. On November 8th 2023, 50-in-5 was formally launched with countries coming together to commit to sharing learnings, best practices, and technologies that can ultimately reduce costs, build local capacity, maximize impact, and help radically shorten the implementation journeys for digital public infrastructure. By 2028, the 50-in-5 campaign will have helped 50 countries design, launch, and scale components of their digital public infrastructure.

The Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure (CDPI) was founded in 2023 with the vision to build a global, software-neutral organization that provides pro bono technical architecture advisory to help countries design and implement their own DPI. Our mission is to catalyse countries' digitization journeys with high-impact DPI to drive inclusive, innovative, and sustainable national growth. CDPI provides pro-bono strategic guidance and architecture design to countries, allowing them to execute at their own pace with existing or new vendors. For countries requiring rapid upgrades to DPI, CDPI, in collaboration with the DPI ecosystem, offers pre-packaged solutions that include software, policy, program management, and funding, enabling phase one deployment within 90 days.

DPI Safeguards

Like roads and bridges, digital public infrastructure (DPI) is made of digital building blocks that allow governments to provide safe and inclusive services to people at scale. Some governments are already deploying DPI at incredible speed and scale, while others are at the beginning of their digital journeys. Regardless of what stage they are in their journey, the necessary safeguards ought to be in place to ensure DPI is safe, trusted, and inclusive for all. This is where the DPI Safeguards initiative comes in. It is an opportunity for everyone, including from the public and private sectors and civil society, to share lessons learned, create guidance and shape the world's collective digital future.​

Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

Every year, millions of people are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution and cannot return without risking their lives, safety or freedom. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is there for them at every stage of the refugee and displacement journey, from the beginning of a crisis, through the months and often years that they are displaced from their homes. Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS)

UN-OHRLLS was established in 2001 and today serves 92 vulnerable states. The 44 Least Developed Countries (LDCs), 32 Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and 39 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are facing their own unique sets of challenges in achieving sustainable development and internationally agreed goals. UN-OHRLLS mobilizes international support and advocate in favour of the three vulnerable country groups. It raises awareness about the economic, social and environmental potential that exists in these countries and ensure that the pressing needs of the 1.1 billion people who live in them, remain high on the international agenda.

The open source ecosystem, while incredibly successful, is also increasingly fragile. Many more people are using the software than contributing to it. It is time to invest in digital commons, volunteer communities and the open source ecosystem to build the digital world we want to see. United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF)

The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949, by a resolution of the General Assembly, to provide retirement, death, disability and related benefits for staff upon cessation of their services with the United Nations, and the other organizations admitted to membership in the Fund. As an independent inter-agency entity, the Fund operates under its own Regulations as approved by the General Assembly and, in accordance with its governance structure, is administered by the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board, which currently consists of 33 members, representing the 25 member organizations.

United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB)

Under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary-General, the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) provides broad guidance, coordination and strategic direction for the UN system in the areas under the responsibility of Executive Heads. Focus is placed on inter-agency priorities and initiatives while ensuring that the independent mandates of organizations are maintained. The Executive Heads meet twice a year to consider policy and management issues impacting organizations of the United Nations system. The work of the Board is supported by two high-level committees: The High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and the High-level Committee on Management (HLCM). Under each Committee there are inter-agency mechanisms and networks to coordinate specific topics.

Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

Every year, millions of people are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution and cannot return without risking their lives, safety or freedom. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is there for them at every stage of the refugee and displacement journey, from the beginning of a crisis, through the months and often years that they are displaced from their homes. It delivers life-saving aid and protection in emergencies, advocate for improved asylum laws and systems so displaced people can access their rights, and help find long-term solutions so they can return home once safe to do so or build a future in a new country. It also works to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality so they can access basic rights, such as education and health care.

Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS)

UN-OHRLLS was established in 2001 and today serves 92 vulnerable states. 50-in-5 is a country-led advocacy campaign. On November 8th 2023, 50-in-5 was formally launched with countries coming together to commit to sharing learnings, best practices, and technologies that can ultimately reduce costs, build local capacity, maximize impact, and help radically shorten the implementation journeys for digital public infrastructure. By 2028, the 50-in-5 campaign will have helped 50 countries design, launch, and scale components of their digital public infrastructure.
