
Dr. Vincent Martin is the Director of the FAO Office of Innovation, leading the Organization’s innovation agenda as part of the Science and Innovation Strategy. With more than 30 years of experience in science, research, diplomacy, and policy related to food security, agrifood systems, and global health, he has held several official positions in the French government, within CIRAD (the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) in Zimbabwe, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, China, DPR Korea and Senegal, and the United Nations Secretariat in Guinea.
Trained initially as a veterinary epidemiologist and further specialized in agronomic sciences and biological engineering, Dr. Martin has built a multidisciplinary career at the intersection of science, innovation, international cooperation, and diplomacy in support of sustainable development and food security. He is recognized for integrating innovation into development, humanitarian, and epidemic response strategies, while fostering international partnerships across the agrifood and health sectors.
Dr. Martin holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, a Ph.D. in Agronomic Sciences and Biological Engineering, as well as advanced degrees in epidemiology, statistics, and livestock production.
