Daniel Alvarez

Innovation Manager & Data Science Lead, UNICEF Office of Innovation

Daniel is an innovator, advocate, technologist and creative pragmatist with an eye for problem-solving. He believes that data science can be used for social benefit to discover, diagnose and design responses to real-world problems of public interest.

Daniel has about 20 years of professional experience drawn from an array of sectors including financial risk management and analytics, international development and humanitarian aid, startup ventures, enterprise software and policy implementation. He currently serves as the Data Science Lead with the UNICEF Office of Innovation. He has served roles in organizations such as UNICEF Venture Fund and United Nations’ World Food Programme as well as Workday, USAA and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He holds a Master in Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Master in Information and Data Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Daniel holds a Financial Risk Management and the AI and Risk certifications from the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
